Typically, an electricity bill includes the following information:

Consumer Information: It includes the customer’s name, his residential address and consumer number.

Billing Period: This indicates the period the bill has been issued.

Current Charges: It defines how much electricity has been consumed in one month.

Due Date: It indicates the last bill payment date without fines or extra charges.

Total Charges: Your current bill, FPA before the due date and after the due date, everything is given in this section.

Other Details: It consists of your electricity bill’s reading date, date of issuance and due date.

In your electricity bill, these are the taxes you have to pay every month:

FPA stands for Fuel Price Adjustment, representing the fuel pricing of rental power companies generating electricity from oil. It is linked to the total cost of electricity and may vary based on fluctuations in fuel prices.

TR is also called Tariff Rationalization Surcharge. It generally reflects the difference between the tariffs set by NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) and the GOP (Government of Pakistan). If the difference is positive, the GOVT of Pakistan is a Subsidy. In case of a negative difference, the distribution company pays it to the GOP as the “Inter DISCO Tariff Rationalization Surcharge.”

FC is also called Financing Cost. Authorities have settled it to impose a 43-paisa per unit FC Surcharge to ensure the collection of funds for servicing the debt of PHPL.

This is also an amount in our bills. You can pay this now or later; it’s up to you. No extra charges will apply if you decide to pay it later, and you can even deliver it over a few future bills if that’s more convenient for you. Please keep it simple and stress-free!

This is the tariff adjustment amount that is applied quarterly on your electricity bills, you may notice in your bills every three months.

In Pakistan, every electricity bill includes a TV fee of 35 rupees. This PTV fee is mandatory for all electricity users, regardless of their usage or type. Moreover, it applies to residential, commercial, and industrial customers throughout the country. This TV fee is used to support Pakistan Television services, and you will see this charge on your electricity bill each month.

In addition to all above mention taxes, MEPCO, GEPCO bill or all users are also required to pay general sales tax(GST) on their electricity bills. The amount of GST is determined on the consumer’s billing amount.
